LAPD Homicide Detective Jessie Drake is asked by radio psychiatrist and old high school friend Renee Altman (Dr. Renee) for help with a stalker. Renee is also going through a divorce and her husband is suing for custody of their little girl. Loner Jessie offers advice and comfort but feels she cant do anything for Renee.

But the stalker has an agenda of his own. He kidnaps Renees daughter Molly, kills their housekeeper and manages to terrorize greater L.A. by using Renees radio show to make his demands known. With time running out, Jessie knows she must pull out all the stops to save Molly.

DEAD AIR is a masterwork of suspense. Krich keeps the pot boiling and readers will hold their breaths until the outcome of the story. There are also several involving subplots that will keep you on the edge of your seat. (Jul., 416 pp., $6.99—Hardcover published March 2000)
