Book Review

As the always funny Raye clearly demonstrates, the course of true love never runs smoothly -- for humans or for bloodsuckers. With a new trilogy that tackles the ups and downs of undead love and dating, Raye introduces a thoroughly modern vampire heroine whose business goals are tightly tied to her shopping habit. Heroine Lil's offbeat adventures are exceedingly charming and good for a giggle. While Lil's success might be in question, Raye's certainly isn't.

Even vampires need help when it comes to modern dating. Enter vampire Countess Lil Marchette, matchmaker extraordinaire -- or at least that's what she hopes to be. Considering her credit-card bills, she needs to make some income fast. Lil's brainchild, Dead
End Dating, is not off to a roaring start, but she's undeterred. If she can find a match for Francois Deville, the oldest and dweebiest never-been-mated vampire ever, she'll be in business.

But several problems hover. One is
a serial killer, the other is hunky vampire/bounty hunter Ty Bonner, who makes Lil's mouth water. But since Ty
is out for the undead, looking is all Lil should be doing. (IVY, Sep., 352 pp., $6.99)
