THE DEADLIEST BITE
It is a bittersweet experience reading the conclusion to the wonderfully offbeat and exciting Jaz Parks series, due to the sad and unexpected death of its brilliant creator. Her loss is a great one; her books were a wonderfully entertaining mix of kick-butt action, wacky technological high jinks and laugh-out-loud humor. Rardin had finished the final Jaz Parks book, so her legion of fans will be able to enjoy the complete series as she envisioned it. She will be missed.
Time is running out for Jaz unless she can remove the demon Brude from her head by making one last trip to hell and carving Brude’s name on the gates. If that is not hard enough, Vayl’s old enemy, the werewolf Roldan, has sent the reincarnation of one of Vayl’s sons to kill him. If Vayl and Jaz are going to get out of this alive, it will take a combined effort by the entire gang: Raoul, Cole, Bergman, Cassandra, Dave, Jack and even robokitty. With everything she loves on the line, Jaz has got to kick butt and take names! (ORBIT, Jun., 320 pp., $13.99)
