This is a pleasant story. The characters are nice, but there is little development. The story does have heart and will keep the reader hanging on until the end.
On the run, Rachael Carson has given up any hope of a baby and family. With a new identity, she feels safe enough to help the local sheriff care for a motherless little girl. Sheriff Cade Garner will do whatever it takes to protect little Jenny. When something seems off about the nanny who fell into their lives, Cade wants to help. He’s willing to protect Rachael, if only she will open up and learn to trust him. (HQN, Dec., 320 pp., $7.99)
