Return to Manhattan with Francesca Cahill and police commissioner Rick Bragg as they embark on their seventh mystery, this time to apprehend a serial killer. The Slasher has been murdering Irish women living in Lower Manhattan—women like Francesca's good friend Maggie Kennedy.

Francesca's investigation is compli-cated by her recent engagement to Bragg's rival—his half-brother Calder Hart—Calder's jealousy and her family's concern about her detective work.

But Francesca cannot turn her back on innocent women and follows the clues that lead from one suspect to another, all innocent. As the killer strikes again, and time runs short, Francesca places herself in danger to apprehend the killer.

It is wonderful to be back in Francesca's world. Though it's certainly fun to try to solve this suspenseful mystery, it is utterly delightful to eavesdrop on the Cahill family's complex relationships. Just when you think you have it all figured out, Joyce turns it all around, leaving you with a cliffhanger and eager for Francesca's next adventure. SENSUAL (Feb., 384 pp., $7.50)
