All in all, Dearly, Departed will leave readers longing for the next installment in this vibrant series.
In 2195, Nora Dearly is kidnapped from her family home by a mysterious group of teenagers dressed in army gear. Little does Nora know she's just become part of a massive government conspiracy that involves a war among the nation's three factions: Nora's fellow citizens of New Victoria, the Punks and zombies. When Nora discovers zombies are real and her kidnappers are from Company Z, a branch of the army made up of the undead that are helping humans in the vicious war, she adapts quickly and even begins to develop feelings for the undead Bram Griswold. But will she be able to rescue her best friend from the siege of undead and locate her father who has secretly been working with the government to try to find a vaccine for the disease? Only time will tell and unfortunately that's one of many things that Nora has in short supply. (DEL REY, Oct. 2011, 471 pp., $16.99, ISBN: 9780345523310, 12 & Up)
