Death Calls (3) by Caridad Pineiro introduces readers to Diana, a heroine with a dark side that's most evident in her love affair with vampire Ryder. She's been drawn slowly into the vampire subculture and despite -- or perhaps because of -- the danger it represents she continues to play with fire. When Diana's best friend is murdered, the investigation leads her into a situation from which she may not emerge intact. This dark book has dark characters, but Pineiro makes sure the reader at least sympathizes with Diana and Ryder, even though they are far from conventional.
