Book Review

DEATH, DOOM AND DETENTION
by Darynda Jones

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

RT Rating

Jones’ second YA is an entertaining tale. Her characters really seem like teens, and the story manages to surprise throughout. Readers will love Lorelei — and Jared.

Lorelei’s dealing with a lot: long-term demon possession, secretive grandparents — and the super-hot angel of death, Jared. Jared’s staying away from Lorelei, per her grandparents’ requests, while her visions are getting stronger and harder to deal with. Meanwhile there’s a new kid at school who seems kind of … strange. Suddenly everyone’s acting weird, and Lorelei and her crew must save the day. (ST. Martin’s Griffin, Mar., 320 pp., $9.99, ISBN: 9780312625214, PB, 13 & Up)
