Readers will get deliciously lost in this new series featuring small-town food columnist Hayley Powell. The perfect combination of a spirited heroine, madcap adventures and a group of unconventional friends makes this book full of addictive humor. The tone is lighthearted and Hayley is fearless and funny. A winning start to a delectable new series.

Hayley Powell jumps at the chance to earn some extra income by writing the town paper’s food column, and readers respond positively. The only person who’s not happy is Karen Applebaum, a competing food columnist. When Hayley is lured to Karen’s house and finds her face down in a bowl of Hayley’s special recipe clam chowder, Hayley knows she’s suspect number one. Unless she and her friends can uncover a killer and clear her name, her next column just might be her last. (KENSINGTON, Mar., 304 pp., $7.99)
