Book Review

A DECADENT WAY TO DIE
by G.A. McKevett

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

The mystery itself is predictable and the reveal will not come as a huge surprise to readers. The side characters are forgettable and do little to enhance the tale. The story’s saving grace is the friendship between the main character and her male counterpart, but McKevett turns their relationship into a romantic one at an inopportune time.

PI and former cop Savannah Reid is hired to solve the attempted murder of Helene Strauss. The octogenarian is a wealthy dollmaker surrounded by a cast of characters that include her botoxed niece, a drug-addicted great-nephew and a devoted granddaughter with bad taste in men. Savannah gathers her own posse of a police detective, homosexual bodyguards and a bubbly, naïve assistant to ensure the elderly woman’s safety. (KENSINGTON, Mar., 304 pp., $7.99)
