Military suspense enthusiasts will enjoy Mann's well-formulated romantic suspense. A tight plot offers seemingly realistic and believable military scenarios. The romantic characters are individually compelling, but their romance takes second stage to the military situations and the suspense plot.

After Captain Jimmy "Hotwire" Gage suffers the loss of a partner and months of torture, he's even more committed to making sure no soldier gets left behind. He's assigned to escort a small boat of USO performers as a cover for a rescue operation. Then the boat explodes and Jimmy, rescuing the survivors, comes face to face with Chloe Nelson in all her wet glory.

Chloe, a composer, joins a troupe of USO performers as a way to pay back the soldier who died and donated her kidney. When the boat sinks, she's rescued by a sexy captain who gets on her last nerve, though she can't seem to stop thinking about him. Soon Chloe ends up in the middle of his dangerous mission with only Gage, and her wits, to save them (BERKLEY SENSATION, Apr., 304 pp., $7.99)
