This chapter in Kenner's first-person, kick-butt adventures takes a darker turn, and a more serious tone, as demon hunter Kate Connor faces long odds and emotional turmoil. The terrific Kenner grabs you and doesn't let go!

After saving her daughter in her last demon battle, Kate must own up to the past. Telling teenage Allie about her mother's career and how Allie's father, Eric, was murdered is
not easy, and Kate also has an uneasy suspicion that the body of rogue hunter David Long contains Eric's soul -- which could only have happened through dark magic.

When more demons pop up, demanding that Kate give them
the "stone," she is confused and
concerned, because these demons
are targeting Allie and David. Whatever Eric was doing right before his murder is apparently the cause
of all this. If only Kate can discover what that was. (BERKLEY, Jul., 292 pp., $14.00)
