Author(s):

Hamilton is a master of setting and stories that deal with isolation. His hero, a former cop, lives in a small town in Michigan and just wants to be left alone. Characters are realistic, the story flows at a believable pace and the end result is another outstanding effort from one of the best. Alex is a prime example of the perfect hero who continues to make things worse for himself even though he wants nothing more than to help.

Alex McKnight’s best friend in the new home he’s made for himself is Vinnie LeBlanc. When Vinnie’s mom passes away, Alex is there to provide comfort. Over the next few days, Vinnie becomes more agitated and, soon after, he disappears. Alex can’t let it rest, and tries to track down his friend’s whereabouts. And how does it tie in to the mysterious deaths of five people at a small airport? (MINOTAUR, Jul., 320 pp, $25.99)
