DIME STORE MAGIC
Nine months ago, 23-year-old witch Paige Winterborne survived tragedy when her mother, Ruth, the head of the American Coven, was murdered. Thirteen-year-old witch Savannah also saw her mother, Eve, killed, and Paige swore to protect and care for the increasingly powerful girl, which won't be easy. Savannah's long-lost father, sorcerer Kristof Nash, has decided he wants custody. Nash and his followers will do anything to get control of Savannah, even revive the Salem witch hysteria.
Witches and sorcerers have been enemies for generations, but in order to combat the Nash cabal, Paige is going to have to accept some unconventional help, such as that of lawyer Lucas Cortez, who offers his services at a reasonable rate and—oh, yeah—is also a sorcerer.
The third book in Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series focuses on witches introduced in last year's book, Stolen. Armstrong combines great action and tense suspense with strong female characters whose lives are anything but ordinary. Splendid! (May, 448 pp., $6.99)
