The kidnapping of small-town beauty queen Lacie hopefully will be FBI agent Ben Camaglia's ticket back to Washington, D.C. Even though Lacie escaped from the kidnapper herself, Ben attempts to protect her and find the culprit. Could it be her sister, Dinah, and her boyfriend? Or did Lacie make up the whole thing for publicity?

As Ben gets to know Lacie, he discovers there's a lot more to her than her beauty. Lacie also makes some discoveries about her past, ones that will shake her world.

Dirty Little Lies has humor and some light suspense, all wrapped up in a nicely scripted romance. The secondary characters add some sparkle to the story, and the romantic relationship between Dinah and her boyfriend is quite fun. (Apr., 320 pp., $6.50)
