Book Review

DISTURBANCE
by Jan Burke

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense

RT Rating

Suspense maestro Burke brings back both her intrepid reporter heroine Irene Kelly and one of the most disturbing villains she has ever faced: monstrous serial killer Nick Parrish, who went to prison in Burke’s 1999 release, Bones. Featuring a killer whose diabolical plans are laid out years in advance, this chilling novel is rife with terror and suspense. Another keeper for the shelf!

Newspaper reporting is Irene’s passion as well as her career, so the demise of Las Piernas News Express is a bitter blow. However, before the paper folds, Irene investigates the disappearance and murder of Marilyn Foster. Disturbingly, evidence on Marilyn’s tortured body implicates devotees of Nick Parrish. Jumping into the world of radio/online reporting Irene finds more bodies linked to Parrish. Soon, however, Irene has more to worry about, as Parrish escapes prison. Parrish’s festering hatred for Irene means she is the prime target for his latest vengeance plans. (SIMON AND SCHUSTER, Jun., 384 pp., $25.00)
