This is an entertaining, fast-moving mystery and romance peopled with interesting, likable characters, as well as warm and cuddly animals. The main romance, as well as the secondary ones, are delightful, and the suspense is well done. This is an all-around enticing and fun story to read.

Framed for attempted murder and labeled a dirty cop, detective Chase Kelly is wounded and forced to take refuge with Lacy Maguire. Lacy, a photographer working out of her home, is not pleased to be taken hostage by Chase. Recovering from a divorce and trying to keep a matchmaking mother and well-meaning friends at bay, Lacy, her dog and three cats find themselves drawn to Chase and his battle to prove his innocence. Now if only she can keep his presence in her home a secret from the really dirty cop, she might have another chance at love! (Love Spell, Dec., 352 pp., $6.99)
