Caldwell’s latest is one hilariously sweet read. With a lovable goldendoodle at the center of this story, readers will be drawn in quickly. Her fresh storytelling, quirky characters and snappy banter are particular highlights. Sprinkled throughout with tender moments between Sebastian and Jess, this tale is sure to delight.

Stylist Jess Champlin doesn’t see eye-to-eye on most things with her well-known journalist ex-husband, Sebastian Hess, except when it comes to their dog, Baxter. When Baxter saves a toddler from being hit by a truck, her neighbor’s video of the heroics goes viral. Baxter becomes a local celebrity. Now Jess and Sebastian are in each other’s lives again, even though Jess is with someone new. But is it really over between these former lovers? (MIRA, Aug., 352 pp., $7.99)
