Short novel "Thief of Hearts" has a plot that's consistently overshadowed by the highly risque and inventive sex scenes that skirt the edges of the erotic. Davidson leaves very little to the imagination, and the attraction between the sappy hero and martyr heroine is hard to swallow early on. "Wild Hearts," the companion novella, a tidy summary of the characters' future, is sassy and fast paced, with offbeat humor that makes it worthwhile.

In "Thief of Hearts," vigilante Kara Jayne Jones, the Avenging Angel, meets Dr. Jared Dean while beating up mob drug lord Carlotti. She finds herself in a whole new world of trouble as she tries to protect Jared and her heart, and also rid the world of a little violence all in one fell swoop. In "Wild Hearts," the Avenging Angel comes out of retirement to help Kat Wechter once again when she ends up face to face with the brother of a man put in jail for assaulting her.
