DOORSTEP DADDY (3) by Shirley Jump: When an elderly neighbor leaves him in charge of baby Sabrina, reclusive novelist Dalton Scott is at a loss. Fortunately, Sabrina's mom, TV producer Ellie Miller, shows up quickly -- but she's in a jam. Dalton agrees to babysit for a few days, to Ellie's relief, and they become friends. Then he confesses to Ellie that his new book is overdue and asks for her help. Getting close is hard for both: Widowed Ellie doesn't want any more upheaval, and Dalton's past is a real obstacle. The characters are handled quite well, as is the conflict. But the plot's a bit sketchy -- and the matchmaking neighbor is a cliche.
