Software developer Annie's problems with men started with one disappointing date in high school. But she goes through life optimistic that her prince will come—until her boyfriend dumps her. That's when she creates Joe Video, every woman's fantasy-man game—interactive, of course.

Annie picks bartender Rico Romero to play the part of Joe. But her boss Matt Abbington, whom she had a one-night stand with, is taking credit for her idea while trying to keep the attraction he feels for her in check. When Rico makes an appearance, Matt is not at all happy.

Laugh-out-loud funny, Dream Man is a fast-moving romance with likable characters. The relationships between the main characters and those around them make for an appealing story that is fun without being silly. (Feb., 336 pp., $6.50)
