Stiefvater’s second in her Raven Cycle is as gorgeous and amazing as the first. Each sentence is lovingly crafted, and you’ll savor every line. This time Ronan’s the focus, though the dense and gripping narrative gives you time with the entire cast. You’ll feel the summer heat beating down on you as the characters deal with a hit man, psychic predictions, anger issues, street racing and much more. Start with The Raven Boys for maximum awesomeness.

As a sweltering summer in Henrietta unfolds, Ronan’s dreams become more of a reality as he refines his power of extracting objects from them. Meanwhile, Blue is dealing with her feelings for Adam and Gansey — and that pesky omen that she’ll kill her true love. Adam’s trying to adjust to life away from his abusive dad, and that deal he made to wake the ley lines.
