by Carole Mortimer

Setting: Regency England

Mortimer provides with a charming but stereotypical romance that lifts your spirits with its sweet love story and reminders of a beloved fairy tale.

After setting his mind on marriage, the Duke of Stourbridge accepts an invitation to a potential bride's home. Instead of being interested in his hostess, however, he is intrigued by her impoverished relative (more serving girl) Jane.

Jane bears the taunts and meanness of her aunt and cousin because she has no hope for a future -- until the duke arrives. Their meeting sparks her idea to flee, and when he leaves, she hides in his carriage. The duke brings her to his estate, claiming she's his ward and his sister's companion. The plan works well until they realize they have fallen in love with each other. To complicate matters, there is a mystery surrounding Jane's identity, and they search for the truth of her parentage.
