An original concept, suspenseful plot and good action sequences grab the reader's attention. Sympathetic characters and a satisfying romance provide an entertaining escape, but the paranormal aspect isn't explained until midway through the book. At that point, readers finally get a clearer picture of who the dyads are and where they come from.

Eleanor Hennen, a voice artist, arrives at a fundraiser run by her sister, only to find that Alice has disappeared. A mysterious stranger tells Eleanor he knows who took her sister and he can help get her back. Eleanor has no choice. She puts her trust in Jacob and he leads her to a very unusual and dangerous kidnapper. Eleanor and Jacob fight a mutual attraction that grows as they battle supernatural forces, but Jacob is hiding dark secrets that threaten to keep them apart. Can they find a way to be together as they fight to stay alive? (CERRIDWEN, 2009, 282 pp., $14.99)
