In the finale of the long-running Protectors series, Barton wraps it all up. Even readers who haven't been following the series will enjoy the fully formed characters, tight plotlines and attention to detail that make this story finish so satisfactorily. Strong secondary romances also thread throughout. Barton really thinks about her storylines, so readers aren't left with nagging questions or the feeling that they missed something. She is a true craftswoman.

In the nine years that Lucie Evans and Sawyer McNamara have been at Dundee Private Security, they've been at loggerheads. No one would guess that once upon a time things were very different between them. When Lucie quits to take a bodyguard position to billionaire Cara Bedell after her last battle with Sawyer, it seem as if the war has ended.

Then Lucie gets kidnapped instead of Cara, and Sawyer cannot stay away from the rescue team. The rescue is successful, but someone is still trying to kill Cara.
