Byrd easily makes the jump from category fiction with the launch of her darkly enticing Primal Instincts series. She does an excellent job setting up the parameters of her world and introducing a host of fascinating characters. Hang on, this is going to be a thrilling ride!

Having been estranged from his now-deceased mother for years, Ian Buchanan is in no mood to listen to the crazy, yet attractive, woman who claims to be in contact with his mother's ghost. Psychic Molly Stratton was warned that Ian would be a hard sell, but with circumstances so dire, she can't back down.

What Ian's mother never fully explained was that their bloodline is supernatural and that Ian's dark dreams are because the Merrick portion of him is coming to life. Centuries ago, the Merrick fought the evil Casus, who were banished but not destroyed. Now a Casus has escaped and plans to kill Ian and those he loves ... unless Ian can accept the Merrick within.
