Book Review

EMPIRE OF IVORY
by Naomi Novik

Genre: Fantasy, General Fantasy

RT Rating

This is the fourth book in Novik's excellent series about the dragon Temeraire and his rider, Laurence. As usual, their adventures are compelling, and series fans will be on the edge of their seats. Ending with a tense and dire cliff-hanger, this story will leave readers clamoring for more.

A mysterious illness has befallen most of England's dragons, a tragedy of great proportion, especially in the face of the defection of a top Chinese dragon to Bonaparte's court. Luckily, Temeraire and a pack of newly recruited feral dragons are uninfected by the disease, becoming England's only means
of airborne defense against France.

However, things are looking grim
for England's dragons, so Temeraire, Laurence and a cadre of ailing dragons are dispatched to Africa, where they hope to find a cure for the
mysterious and deadly disease. (Del Rey, Oct., 400 pp., $7.99)
