Banerjee had great success with her previous novel, Haunting Jasmine; readers will enjoy Enchanting Lily just as much. This is a wonderful story with lovable characters who are trying to start fresh after tragedy touches their lives. Readers will fall head over heels for a four-legged character who almost upstages the two-legged leads.
After the death of her husband, young widow Lily Byrne tries to move on and wonders how her well-planned life became so broken. So she packs up and drives to whatever place speaks to her. She ends up on an island in the Pacific Northwest and knows this is where she will start her new life. She opens a vintage clothing boutique, as this is all she knows, and has struggle after struggle, but continues to keep her dream alive. With the help of a mysterious white cat, who nudges Lily when needed, her dreams are coming true — even falling in love again, which she never thought was possible. (BERKLEY, Aug., 320 pp., $15.99)
