END OF THE TRAIL
This is the sixth and final book about the Morgan family, and McDonough does a terrific job bringing things to a close. Brooks is a strong character, and his belief in God and in doing the right thing is evident from the beginning. He’s looking for a job and a home but finds salvation, reconciliation and even romance.
When he was 16 years old, Brooks Morgan ran away from home after a heated argument with his family, and he has been a wanderer ever since. Riding into the small town of Shoofly to seek shelter from a storm, he meets Will Langston. Will offers him a job and they become fast friends. Will dies suddenly and leaves his ranch to Brooks, along with a heap of trouble. (RIVER NORTH, Jul., 256 pp., $14.99)
