EXPECTING MIRACLE TWINS (2) by Barbara Hannay: Acting as a surrogate mother for her friend Gina complicates children's author Matilda Carey's life in an unexpected way. Moving into Gina's brother's flat for the duration, Mattie finds environmental scientist Jake Devlin in residence for a week. Still hurting over a text-message end to her engagement, Mattie's vulnerable, and they become lovers before Jake returns overseas. Keeping the relationship going via e-mail works, then Jake returns and discovers Mattie's pregnancy. This story has some amusing scenes and good sexual tension, but the romance seems rushed, and Jake's reaction to Mattie's pregnancy is over-the-top nasty, even given the explanation provided.
