Retrieval Artist: a fancy job title for a bounty hunter who seeks out the Disappeared—outlaws wanted for crimes against alien cultures. Miles Flint is a Retrieval Artist on the trail of a Disappeared scientist connected to several mysterious deaths. Flint finds himself working on the wrong side of the law as he tries to prove a fellow Retrieval Artist's death was murder. An inventive plot and complex, conflicted characters increases the appeal of Kristine Kathryn Rusch's EXTREMES (3). This futuristic tale breaks new ground as a space police procedural and should appeal to both science fiction and mystery fans. (Jul., 384 pp., $9.99)
