EYE CANDY
by R.L. Stine

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Suspense

RT Rating

After months of moping around following the death of the love of her life, lonely Lindy tries to live again. One of her roommates places a personal ad for her on the Internet, under the heading "Eye Candy." The responses begin rolling in and soon Lindy has four dates set up.

Some go better than others, but when Lindy receives a threat, she's scared of all the men. She's told, "Don't say no, Lindy. Keep going out with me." Otherwise, violence is promised. With her life on the line, Lindy must make some hard decisions.

This is a fun, suspenseful read. At first the ending seems obvious, but it isn't, and the twist is well done. But this reads like a young-adult novel with some curse words thrown in. Bestselling children's author Stine's writing is too simplistic for adults.

Lindy is a good protagonist with an interesting background that it would have have been nice to see more of. Still, this is a good lazy afternoon read. (Oct., 320 pp., $6.99)
