Eyes Wide Open is a dark psychological thriller and a gripping story. The plot is unusual yet believable, and the characters are realistically portrayed. However, several scenes delve too deeply into their desperation, slowing the pace.

When his nephew commits suicide, Jay Erlich tries to help his brother and sister-in-law deal with their tragic loss. The couple is plagued with mental health issues and a dangerous past that has come back to haunt them all. In order to save his brother, Jay risks his successful medical practice and the happy, stable life that he has created for his own family. (MORROW, Jul., 352 pp., $25.99)
