When reporter Chloe Atherton travels to Applegate, N.C., to write a feature story on the town's sheriff's office, it's left to Deputy Sheriff Mack Whittaker to show her around. But Mack, a Gulf War veteran, has his own problems, and he doesn't want to deal with a pesky reporter who's too attractive for his sanity. Amy Frazier's Falling for the Deputy (4.5) combines humor and excellent characters for a very entertaining read. Mack's and Chloe's flaws only make them more realistic, and reading about them overcoming those flaws will warm any reader's heart.
