King George IV’s visit to Scotland provides the colorful backdrop for the last of the Gilvrys of Dunross series. Lethbridge captures the excitement and aura of the royal visit alongside the dark underbelly of Edinburgh. There’s plenty of tension and dangerous excitement blended with poignancy and passion. Readers will turn the pages just to watch her vibrant characters play out their roles and find their happily ever after.

With his brothers wed, it is up to Logan Gilvry to smuggle a batch of the family’s whiskey into Edinburgh before the king’s arrival. Charity West appears to be a coldhearted beauty who melts hearts and steals souls. But Charity has been forced to take part in deadly games to win her freedom. Her protector needs Charity to seduce Logan into giving her his family’s secrets. Logan is too smart to be drawn in by Charity’s charm, but the vulnerability beneath her facade tempts him to trust her. That’s where the danger lies. Yet Logan and Charity will do anything — even betray their love — to save each other’s lives. (HARLEQUIN, Dec., 288 pp., $6.50)
