After her mother dies of a drug overdose, Dr. McKenzie Ashford swears revenge on the man responsible. The opportunity arises years later when she accepts a position with Chandler Pharmaceuticals and recognizes Marc Chandler, CEO of Chandler Pharmaceuticals, as the man running from her home on the day her mother died.

McKenzie vows to find evidence that Marc is a drug dealer and hires a detective to look into his past. When the detective fails to turn up anything, McKenzie decides to get closer to Marc to find proof that he was involved. Along the way McKenzie finds Marc isnt the monster she thought he was and falls in love with him.

Marc loves McKenzie even though he knows from past experiences not to trust women. When Marc finds evidence of her plan, he feels betrayed. The two must overcome mistrust to find a life together.

Ms. Thomas entertains with an enjoyable cast of characters and a story that pulls at the heartstrings. (Jul., 285 pp., $5.99)
