Genre: Fantasy, Anthology

RT Rating

This is a fast-paced and enthralling collection of short stories about pirates -- on the sea and in outer space. The editors have done a fantastic job of pulling together a cohesive, intelligent and compulsively readable volume that will leave you talking like a pirate (yarr!).

This collection is filled with notable and bestselling authors, including Garth Nix, Michael Moorcock, Kage Baker, Naomi Novik and Eric Flint. Highlights include "Boojum," a collaboration between Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear about an organic spaceship pressed into service as a pirate vessel; Kelly Barnhill's "Elegy for Gabrille, Patron Saint of Healers, Whores and Righteous Thieves," about a miraculous child of the sea; and Katherine Sparrow's "Pirate Solutions," featuring computer geeks and bone-rum. (NIGHTSHADE, Nov., 240 pp., $14.95)
