Welcome back to the Edge, where the weird and the wacky can be extraordinarily dangerous. Although accented with mind-numbing terror, there is also plenty of humor. Fans will be ecstatic to see not only the return of scoundrel Kaldar Mar, but also magical brothers Jack and George. With two distinct and outstanding series on tap, Andrews clearly demonstrates why she is fast becoming a genre giant. Like getting on a great thrill ride, with this book all you can do is hang on and try not to close your eyes!

Edger Audrey Callahan is trying to build a law-abiding life in the Broken when her father reappears demanding her help in one last theft. As part of the deal allowing his family into the Weird, Kaldar Mar agreed to work for the Mirror in its battle against the Hand. The head of the Mirror, Lady Nancy Virai, sends Kaldar on a mission to recover a stolen military device. Kaldar’s investigation takes him to Audrey, who learns the item she stole for her father is wanted by the Hand. Kaldar realizes he needs Audrey to track down the item, but he doesn’t expect to have stowaways on the mission, namely teens Jack and George. (ACE, Dec., 384 pp., $7.99)
