Maxwell’s third Fighting for Love novel is a darker, more intense addition to the series, but this steamy, heartfelt story of love overcoming the most extreme odds will no doubt delight fans and new readers alike. Some plot elements feel a bit forced, and the power imbalance between the characters is more evident here than in other books, but Maxwell’s sensitivity to her characters’ painful pasts is evident from beginning to end. She has the wisdom to force them both to confront their darkness, which makes for a rewarding read.

Kat MacGregor has been on the run for most of her life, and now a notorious crime boss has given her 48 hours to repay a debt … or else. Alone and terrified, Kat knows her only hope lies in the tough, tattooed Bostonian who won her heart with his gentle kindness. Former MMA fighter Aiden “Irish” O’Brien agreed to keep an eye on his friend’s sister, but never intended to fall so hard for Kat at first sight. He’d do anything to help her, but Aiden has secrets, too, and his secrets force him to keep her at a distance, even as he risks everything to save her. (ENTANGLEDPUBLISHING.COM, dl $0.99)
