FILE M FOR MURDER
by Miranda James

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

This charming, classic cozy features full-on Southern charm. Well-plotted and evenly paced, with fairly laid out clues for those who like to solve along with the sleuth. Charlie and Diesel are a delightful detective team, and the idea of a male amateur sleuth/librarian with a cat is a refreshing twist on an old trope.

Athena College librarian Charlie Harris and his cat Diesel take an instant dislike to the college’s new writer-in-residence, Connor Lawton, whose rude nature and abusive tongue don’t sit well with most people he encounters. Charlie’s dislike turns to concern when his daughter Laura, subbing at the college, reveals a previous relationship with Lawton — a relationship the playwright would like to resume. When Laura discovers Lawton’s dead body soon after they have a very public spat, Charlie and Diesel spring into action to uncover the truth. (PRIME CRIME, Jan., 304 pp., $7.99)
