In this action-packed story, Bond mixes a fine mystery with romance and a bit of mysticism to create a bang-up tale. Gloria and Zane's relationship develops in a heartachingly emotional way while the mystery grows apace. Characters from the author's 2005 title, In Deep Voodoo, make appearances.

Attorney Gloria Dalton has just arrived in Mojo, La., to take over the practice of the deceased Deke Black. An accident on her first day at work brings her face to face with chief of police Zane Riley, the boy she was in love with 14 years ago and hasn't seen since, when she went into the witness protection program.

Unrecognizable as that young girl, she ends up in close contact with Zane when the accident turns out to be murder, voodoo dolls are left at her door, notes threatening to expose her identity appear and the man who sent her into hiding is out of prison. Should she even bother unpacking? (Avon, Nov., 384 pp., $5.99)
