Quinn Baldwin is a pyrotechnic expert with some interesting employees. When an accident nearly costs him his life and almost destroys his livelihood, he has to trust that God knows what he's doing. But does God's plan include him being accused of sabotaging his own business to collect on the insurance?

Susannah Tait, a former ATF agent, is eager to catch the guy trying to defraud Independent Mutual Insurance. And with her talents, it won't take long for her to get her man. After meeting Quinn, however, her well-orchestrated plans go up in smoke. Could it be that she's mistaken this time, or is Quinn's faith, veracity and incredible kindness all an act?

White knows how to create sparks between her characters, and life in the South is aptly portrayed in this placid romance. But readers may find it difficult to understand why Susannah is less than honest while investigating Quinn. Agreeable secondary characters round out this romantic story. (May, 352 pp., $12.99)
