by Christine DeSmet

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

This series starter features a spunky and independent fudge shop owner. Interesting characters enhance this mystery and Ava’s relationships with her jilted ex-boyfriend and a new love interest provide plenty of romantic tension. The mystery evolves nicely with a few good twists and turns that lead to a surprising villain. Fudge recipes are included!

Ava Oosterling has left Los Angeles and returned to Door County, Wisc., where she is making Belgian fudge at her grandfather’s bait shop on the dock in Fishers’ Harbor. When aging ex-movie star Rainetta Johnson visits and samples Ava’s fudge, she chokes to death. Diamonds are later found in the fudge, and Ava knows something sinister is going on. Sifting through suspects and her sugar for diamonds, Ava is determined to uncover the criminals in her Lake Michigan hometown. (OBSIDIAN, Sep., 352 pp., $7.99)
