by David Baldacci

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Thriller

RT Rating

Baldacci's latest intense and action-packed thriller has an intricate plot that pulls readers right in and keeps them guessing. But the real pleasure here are Sean and Michelle, who pull no punches in carrying out their investigation and don't care whose feathers they ruffle -- even if they belong to the president and first lady!

Former Secret Service agents turned private investigators Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are on their way to the residence of Pam and Tuck Dutton, the brother and sister-in-law of the first family, at Pam's behest. First lady Jane Cox has just thrown a birthday party for their daughter Willa. Sean and Michelle find a murder and kidnapping in progress. In the aftermath, Pam is dead, Tuck and two children wounded, and Willa's been kidnapped. The FBI immediately begins an investigation and won't give Sean and Michelle any information -- until the first lady asks them to find Willa. The clues take them around the country -- and may lead them right back to where they started. (GRAND CENTRAL, May, 449 pp., $27.99)
