Book Review

RT Rating

The UF genre just got a major infusion of humor and sass in the form of P.I. Charley Davidson (aka the Grim Reaper). Jones makes a truly memorable debut with her unique tale that is sexy, mysterious and sarcastically fun! Charley’s offbeat world is populated with intriguing characters of both the living and deceased variety … plus one dark and dangerous entity. Can’t wait for Charley’s next wild ride!

For Charley, combining her jobs of being a PI and the Grim Reaper usually works surprisingly well. It has certainly helped the career of her police detective Uncle Bob. Having the dead assist you in solving their murders can really help close cases, but this new triple murder is puzzling. Three attorneys from the same firm were murdered, but no one knows why. Distracting Charley are the intensely sensual dreams she’s been having about a man named Reyes Farrow: but are they really dreams?

First Grave on the Right

Charley Davidson can see dead people. As a matter of fact, she helps them cross over to the other side. She is the Grim Reaper. But sometimes the dead people aren't ready to leave. When Charley talks to the late Attorney Patrick Sussman, he wants her to help find the person who killed him and his law partners. Since her uncle is the lead detective on the murder case, she can feed him information to help the case along.

I was in a bit of a slump when I picked up this book. I think I'm officially over it. This is a funny story that is very hard to put down. I loved the humor. The characters are fun. And, Charley has a mysterious entity who has been following her around her whole who is now starring in her dreams. Is he a ghost or some other type of being? I'll definitely be reading more of this series. My rating: 5 Stars.

LITERAL ADDICTION's Review of First Grave on the Right

Our Review [by Michelle L. Olson - LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha]:
Darynda Jones's debut novel was a smart, sexy, sassy, sophisticated breath of fresh air and utterly fantastic from start to finish!

Our heroine, Charley Davidson, is a Grim Reaper and gateway to heaven. She's also a ridiculously funny, smart, sexy, sarcastic Private Investigator and consultant to the APD with attention deficit disorder.

Our hero, Reyes Farrow, is an enigma. He's Charley's dream guy (literally), but appears to be oh so much more and reading his tale unravel was like peeling a golden onion.

The supporting characters are loveable and absolutely perfect for the story, perfectly placed and elaborated upon by Ms. Jones.

The plot of First Grave on the Right was also genius - a multiple homicide with more angles and twists than a slinky leaving me putting off meals, housework, and pretty much everything just so I could read more.

LITERAL ADDICTION gives First Grave on the Right 5 Skulls, and would recommend it to everyone!

I'm super excited for the upcoming installments of this series. It's a definite winner and a straight shot to the top of my favorites list.
