The wait is finally over, as the incomparable Butcher gives salivating fans the piece de resistance of his Codex Alera series. The incredible journey of clever Tavi, from shepherd's apprentice to last hope of the realm, has been both thrilling and harrowing, not to mention completely engrossing. In this finale, the blistering pace of warfare never falters, and is split between character viewpoints, but the heart of the story remains the evolution of a singular young man. As heroes go, they don't come better than Tavi! Bravo, Mr. Butcher!

With the world as they know it hanging in the balance, Tavi, rightful heir to the title of First Lord, must find
a way to bring old foes together to
battle the unrelenting march of the Vord. After discovering the Canim Blood Lands have fallen to the Vord, resourceful Tavi has found a way to bring the survivors back to Alera to make a final stand.

With the original Vord Queen gaining the terrible ability to use elemental Furies, something only Alerans had been able to do, the situation is grim. As Tavi and his combined forces struggle to break through, circumstances are becoming increasingly dire. The final battlefield is moving back to where it began -- in the Calderon Valley!
