A FISTFUL OF CHARMS
by Kim Harrison

Genre: Fantasy, General Fantasy

2006 Modern-Day Fantasy Novel Nominee

RT Rating

Witch Rachel Morgan has a problem. Her ex, Nick, has disappeared in northern Michigan with Jenks' son (a pixy) and
a priceless and powerful were artifact. She has pretty much no choice but to
use some demon magic to make Jenks human-sized (so he won't freeze to
death in the unpredictable weather)
and head to Mackinaw to retrieve pixy kid, ex-boyfriend and artifact. Naturally, there are complications galore.

In this engaging and fast-paced read, Harrison introduces lots of wonderful moral ambiguity into Rachel's character, and some fascinating new complexities into her relationship with Ivy, her vampire roommate. Giving Rachel a change of scenery reinvigorates the series, and her depiction of small-town northern Michigan is spot-on (including the fudge). There are a few interesting twists, and fans will find this a more than satisfying series entry. (Jul., 544 pp., $7.99)
