This romance has a few original twists that set it apart from other adventure novels. No jewels, no wild escapades, but plenty of action and an art-world mystery that piques the imagination. The appealing characters and pacing showcase Noble’s writing talents.

Winnifred Crane is determined to prove herself worthy of membership in the all-male historical society. After all she has written scholarly papers, considered brilliant by most. When she is turned down, she bargains with the members: she will authenticate a painting to prove her value and gain the reputation she deserves. The Duke of Rayne, Jason Cummings, seeks the quiet of the society to get away from marriage-minded females. Suddenly he finds himself accompanying Winn on a journey across the Continent. From country to country, the mystery deepens and so does their relationship. It’s difficult to be immune to a man as handsome as Jason and Winn’s vibrancy and passion intrigue Jason. But what should would be a simple task becomes challenging. They must stay one step ahead of her fiancé and rival. But when Winn gets her proof and their adventure is over will the passion and love remain? (BERKLEY SENSATION, May, 380 pp., $7.99)
