In the latest book in her Bellagio, Inc., series, Banks shines as a confident and skilled author with her smart protagonists and a well-written narrative. The plot's resolution is abrupt and far less believable than the story that led up to it, but the ride along the way is fun, and the initial conflicts create a compelling romantic tale for much of the novel.

Dumped by her longtime fiance, ultra-responsible shoe company employee Amelia Parker decides it's high time she started doing a few wild things, and Jack "The Shark" O'Connell is determined to help her. The two cross paths while Amelia is on assignment in the Florida Keys and Jack, a successful venture capitalist, is covertly investigating her employer.

Though Jack finds Amelia's innocence and beauty captivating, nothing is going to deter him from his mission, even if that means keeping a few secrets from the conscientious woman he's come to admire. When Amelia discovers Jack's true motives, she has to wonder if the man she thought she knew in Florida is indeed the man she's fallen in love with. (HQN, Sep., 384 pp., $6.99)
