These two stories in one volume feature amazing characters — some are witty and some are quirky, but all of them are lovable and memorable. The small town comes to life and will remain with readers for a long time. Baer knows what her fans look for in a feel-good book and does not disappoint in either story.

City boy Alex Armstrong is wondering why he agreed to pastor a church in rural North Dakota in “An Unlikely Blessing.” Alex is trying to settle into his first assignment and his parishioners are not making it easy for him. He learns what julebukking is and learns to appreciate King Oscar’s fish balls as he fights off matchmaking mamas. In “Surprising Grace” Alex discovers his flock needs more help and counsel than he could give them in a lifetime. A woman he once loved crosses his path, and he is faced with a tough decision.
